17.5.07

People in Roxby Downs and Remote northern South Australia are being urged to enter the prestigious Landcare Awards ñ which are on again.
Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath and country music star Adam Brand are backing the awards and urging people in SA to enter the state Landcare Awards which will recognise outstanding achievements in Landcare.
Other stars supporting the Awards include Graeme Connors, Tania Kernaghan and Melinda Schneider.
Landcare says itís vital to salute dedicated people in SA who give up time to care for the stateís precious land and water resources.
Landcare Australia says itís thrilled to celebrate the amazing work being done by SA landcarers.
With awards to recognise individuals, schools, universities, local councils, primary producers, indigenous groups and many others, this is an invaluable opportunity for all types of Landcarers to celebrate their remarkable work in tackling environmental issues from the ground up.
Winners will be recognised throughout national and local media, among the Landcare network and in their community.
Landcare Australia Chief Executive Brian Scarsbrick said: ìLandcare is all about people with sleeves rolled up and making it happen.
ìThe winners will receive state-wide recognition and be flown to a huge national ceremony held in Canberra in 2008, where our national winners will receive $1,000. Award winners go on to receive greater acknowledgement, and some end up getting extra funds to help them continue with their projects.
Country music star Adam Brand ñ who has won numerous Golden Guitars for his successful albums ñ said: ìI travel across Australia constantly and Landcare is part of the backbone of our nation.
ìWe are facing many environmental issues. Whatís so remarkable about Landcare is itís all about people doing something practical.
ìThatís what weíre saluting with these awards.î
Each Landcare Awards category is judged by specialists including people from the farming, environmental, science and education areas.
The Awards are open to anyone in Australia and you donít have to be a Landcare group to take part.
Thereís a simple checklist people who enter can use as part of their application.
All information on entering the Landcare Awards is available through www.landcareonline.com.
SA nominations close on 16th July.
