ëSlamming whoopsí, ëcarving bermsí, ëflying highí, sound like American wrestling moves, donít they?
Well, as champion motocross rider, Tyson Whillas could tell you, they have more to do with motor bikes and freestyle jumps than fat men in tights.
Tyson, who moved to Roxby Downs with his family last year, has been racing on the state motocross circuit for quite some time, and enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success.
With many wins under his belt and the mantle of Junior State Champion in 2004 and 2005, Tyson, now 16, has stepped up to the senior ranks and is competing in the 250cc and 450cc classes.
At the end of this month he will begin his assault on the South Australian Motocross State Titles, where he is hoping to do well enough to secure himself a spot on a professional racing team.
Currently sponsored by Kawasaki Australia and Cowleys Motorcycles, Tyson has already had a very successful year, with four first placings and a third at various events around the state.
ìItís my first year in the seniors, and Iím hoping to do well, a top five placing at least,î Tyson said.
ìIf I go all right in the state championships Iíve got a real chance at getting a spot on the Kawasaki Australia Race Team, which would be greatî he said.
ìHeís very passionate about his racing,î guardian Diane Stanton said.
ìHe always wants to win.
ìIf he can get number one in the state 250 class and move up to the Kawasaki Australia Team, itíll be a dream come true.
ìHeíll be a professional rider,î she said.
The state titles are made up of five races.
The first will be held at Mt Gambier at the end of May, the second at Tea Tree Gully, then on to Port Augusta, South Coast and Gillman.
The Roxby Desert Motor Cross Club would like to wish Tyson the best of luck in the upcoming State Titles.
