The Roxby Downs community will be playing host to a group of elite athletes this week, when four members of the Australian Special Olympics team arrive on Friday.
Roxby resident, Marsha Nottle, whose brother Peter Kerin is a special Olympian, is hoping the visit will help raise funds to send the South Australian contingent to the World Summer Games.
ėWe need to raise $4,500 per athlete to cover the cost of flights and accommodation,î Ms Nottle said.
ėThese are some of our brightest sporting stars, but they need support and funds to get to the World Summer Games.
ėWe are hoping the Roxby Downs community will help them realize their dream of competing at the top of their chosen sports at the Special Olympics in Shanghai. ėDonations over $2 are tax deductible and donations from BHP Billiton employees over $20 are eligible for BHP Billitonís matched giving program, as are all funds raised,î she said.
The visiting athletes, Peter Kerin, Paula Morrissy, Lachlan Woollett and Laura Hester will speak at both local schools on Friday and the public is invited to attend.
The meeting at St Barbara's Parish School will commence at 9am, followed by an address at Roxby Downs Area School in the basketball stadium at the Recreation Centre at 11.20am.
On Saturday, Ms Nottle and her celebrity guests will be hosting a fundraising BBQ at Market Day.
Ms Nottle would like to thank St Barbara's Parish School and Roxby Downs Area School for their support and David Boemia, NAB Area Manager, the staff at the National Bank Roxby Downs and Sandvik Mining and Construction Adelaide Ltd for their generous donations.
For further information, or to make a donation, contact Jason or Marsha Nottle on 8671 1474 or 0438 701 474.
